Ranking Western Kentucky’s 2019 Opponents | WKU Connection

We are about 2 and 1/2 weeks out from the start of WKU Football and like you I am ready for football season to be back in Bowling Green. While we wait on the 2019 season to kickoff here is a ranking of Western Kentucky’s opponents in 2019.

*These rankings are based off vegas gambling odds, conference, and returning statistics*

12. Central Arkansas

To kickoff the 2019 season WKU will host Central Arkansas a member of the FCS who finished last season 6-5.

Last season WKU lost their FCS game vs. Maine. Let’s not relive that moment again this year.

11. At Old Dominion

Last season Old Dominion finished 4-8 in Conference USA with their best win coming against #13 Virginia Tech in week 4 (49-35).

The monarchs also beat the Hilltoppers in 2018 (37-34). Last season Old Dominion was no stranger to putting up points on the scoreboard averaging 30 points per game in 2018. Expect the 2019 match up to be a high scoring contest.

Vegas currently has Old Dominions odds to win C-USA at (+10000)

10. Charlotte

In 2018 the 49ers finished 5-7 with their best win at Florida Atlantic (27-24).

The 49ers defeated the Hilltoppers in 2018 (40-14). Both the Hilltoppers and 49ers will have new coaches at the helm with much to prove in year 1.

Vegas currently has Charlotte’s odds to win C-USA at (+6600)

9. MTSU

WKU arch rival Middle Tennesee is #9 after an (8-6) campaign in 2018. MTSU loses 4 year starter Brent Stockstill in 2019.

In 2018 the blue raiders defeated the Hilltoppers (29-10). Last season the blue raiders best win was against Lane Kiffin and Florida Atlantic in front of a packed floyd stadium crowd of 1,000.

Vegas currently has MTSU’s odds to C-USA at (+1700)

8. UAB

Finally since the resurrection of the UAB football program in 2016 this is the first match-up between the 2 schools since 2014.

In 2018 the UAB Blazers finished (11-3) and won the C-USA championship defeating MTSU (27-25). The Blazers went on to win the Boca Raton Bowl vs. Northern Illinois.

Vegas currently has UAB’s Odds to win C-USA at (+950)

7. At Southern Mississippi

In 2018 the Golden Eagles finished (6-5) with their best win coming against Marshall (26-24).

Last season Southern Mississippi played Auburn close in a loss (24-13). But fell apart the following week vs. North Texas. Playing on the road is going to be tough for WKU, but they will be coming off a bye week into Hattiesburg.

Vegas currently has Southern Mississippi’s odds to win C-USA at (+600)

6. At Florida International

In 2018 the Panthers finished (8-4) with their best winning coming against Toledo (35-32) in the Bahamas Bowl.

Last season the Panthers defeated the Hilltoppers (38-17). FIU will return 8 starters on offense as well as 8 starters on defense.

Vegas currently has Florida International’s odds to win C-USA at (+550)

5. At Marshall

The 2018 Marshall Herd finished (9-4) their best win was against South Florida in the Gasparilla Bowl (38-20).

Last season the Herd defeated the Hilltoppers (20-17). Redshirt Sophomore Isaiah Green returns for the Herd passing for 2,459 in 2018.

Vegas currently has Marshall’s odds to win C-USA at (+500)

4. Florida Atlantic

In 2018 the Florida Atlantic owls finished (5-7) with their best win coming against Air Force (33-27).

Last season FAU defeated Western Kentucky (34-15). In 2018 the Owls averaged 31 points per game with starting QB returning in Chris Robinson with 2,540 yards.

Vegas currently has Florida Atlantic as the favorite to win C-USA at (+290)

3. Louisville (in Nashville)

In 2018 the Cardinals went (2-10) one of those wins coming against Western Kentucky (20-17).

Western Kentucky might have been the best win for the Cardinals in 2018.

This years match up will be played at Nissian Stadium in Nashville. Both teams will be under new coaching in 2019 and the 2019 match up should be just as good as the game in 2018.

Vegas currently has Lousiville’s chances to win the ACC at (+15000)

2. At Arkansas

The 2018 Razorbacks finished (2-10) falling to fellow C-USA foe North Texas (44-17). The Hilltoppers will look to extend the Conference USA winning streak vs. Arkansas to 2 games.

The Razorbacks lost their leading passer in 2018 QB Ty Story (Sound Familiar?). The Razorbacks have brought in former Texas A&M QB Nick Starkel and return former Last Chance U star RB Rakeem Boyd who rushed for 775 yards in 2018.

The game will take place in Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium which seats 76,000. The Razorbacks are expected to be hot trash in 2019, but nonetheless they play in the SEC West one of the toughest conference divisions in the country.

Vegas has the Razorbacks odds to win the SEC at (+20000). 13th in the SEC.

1. Army

In 2018 the Army Black Knights finished (11-2) with a big win over Houston (70-14) in the Armed Forces Bowl.

At #5 Oklahoma in 2018 the Black Knights played the Sooners close (21-28) in Norman.

Ending their 11-2 campaign in 2018 the Black Knights finished ranked in the final AP Poll at #19 and are likely to come into their match-up vs. Western Kentucky on a 3 game win streak. *Assuming they lose to Michigan in week 2*

Vegas currently has Army’s 2019 win total at (9.5)
