Colts Extend Former WKU Tight End Jack Doyle To 3 Year Extension | WKU Connection

This afternoon the indiapolis colts announced they have extended former WKU TE Jack Doyle to a 3 year extension. This deal comes after the Los Angeles Rams decided to extend Tyler Higbee earlier this season. A good year to be former Hilltopper now in the NFL.

To this point Doyle has totaled 36 catches for 377 yards and 4 touchdowns in the 2019 season.

The extension is reportly a 3 year deal worth 21 million guaranteed with a possible for incentives bumping it up to 24 million. Currently 3 former Hilltopper Tight Ends are on active NFL rosters, Deon Yelder (Chiefs), Tyler Higbee (Rams), and Jack Doyle (Colts).

Deon Yelder

On the opening drive from the Chiefs, Yelder caught two passes from Kansas City Quarterback Patrick Mahomes. This was Yelder’s first reception of his NFL career.

Yelder went for 43 yards with some run after the catch ability displayed on both catches. Yelder was really the only spark to the Chiefs passing attack in the first quarter.

Deon ended the game with 2 catches on 2 targets for 43 yards in a Chiefs 34-30 victory in Detroit.

Jack Doyle

Colts Tight End Jack Doyle totals 4 catches for 22 yards with 1 touchdown in the Colts 31-24 loss to the Oakland Raider in Indianapolis.

Tyler Higbee, you’re up. #TightEndU

New York Jets Sign Former WKU QB Mike White To Practice Squad | WKU Connection

Earlier today the New York Jets announced they have signed former WKU QB Mike White to their practice squad.

White, originally a 5th round draft pick by the Dallas Cowboys was waived by the team on August 31st. White did not appear in any regular season games for the Cowboys.

At Western Kentucky Mike threw for 8,540 yards, 61 touchdowns and 15 interceptions in 27 games on the Hill.

With the Jets 1st round draft pick a year ago in Sam Darnold out for the next 3-6 weeks with Mono and backup QB Trevor Siemian on IR, the Jets now turn to back up Luke Falk. With the uncertainty at QB for the Jets we may see White on the active roster in the coming weeks.

Good Luck Mike!

Taylor On Being Traded To The Browns, “A Dream Come True” | WKU Connection

Matt Starkey/Cleveland Browns

In the media’s first opportunity to ask former WKU receiver Taywan Taylor some questions Taylor said the opportunity to play for the Cleveland Browns was, “a dream come true”

Taylor’s first game as a member of the Cleveland Browns will be Sunday vs his former team the Tennessee Titans. It was hinted that Taylor might be asked to contribute right away vs his former team in a quote by Browns Head Coach Freddie Kitchens.

Taylor will wear #10 for Cleveland.

More comments from Taylor can be found here:

The Browns also have a interesting YouTube series “Building the Browns” similar to HBO’s “Hard Knocks” I am sure Taylor will be featured on the series at some point. Here is the most recent episode-

Which Former Hilltoppers Made The Cut? | WKU Connection

As NFL teams begin to finalize their rosters ahead of week 1, here is a list of former Hilltoppers who made the cut for their teams final 53 man roster:

•TE- Jack Doyle (Colts)

•TE- Deon Yelder (Chiefs)

•TE- Tyler Higbee (Rams)

•OT- George Fant (Seahawks)

•OG- Forrest Lamp (Chargers)

•LB- Joel Iyiegbuniwe (Bears)

WR Taywan Taylor was recently involved in a trade sending him to Cleveland in return for a 2020 draft pick.

Taylor’s battle will be uphill in Cleveland, having established NFL veterans ahead of him like, Odell Beckham, Jarvis Laundry, and Rashard Higgins. Playing time and targets will not come so easily.

To this point of his career Taylor has totaled 53 catches for 697 yards in 29 games played.

We’re behind you Taywan!
